About the artist
Patricia Schaefer
Patricia Schaefer is a painter working in oil, acrylic, and watercolor from a converted barn studio in New York's Hudson Valley. Her work returns, again and again, to the cut flower and the laid table — subjects she treats less as decoration than as a way of measuring light, colour, and the passage of a single afternoon.
Trained first in observational drawing and later in printmaking, she builds each painting in patient, translucent layers, letting the ground glow through so that a green field or a magenta cloth behaves like weather across the surface. Alongside the still lifes, an ongoing series of allegorical diptychs joins figure, animal, and botanical emblem in a quieter, more narrative key.
Her paintings are held in private and corporate collections across the United States and the United Kingdom, and she exhibits regularly with galleries in Hudson and New York City.
